The Physiological Rôle of Vitamin B: Part V. The Relation of Inanition to Vitamin B Deficiency in Pigeons.

چکیده
PREFATORY NOTE. THROUGHOUT this paper vitamin B refers to the accessory food factors present in yeast. We have satisfied ourselves that pigeons fed on a synthetic diet of the type used throughout this work but supplemented with 4 % of yeast extract that has been heated with alkali for 4 hours to destroy the "antineuritic " factor behave exactly as do those which receive the unsupplemented ration. The presence of the treated yeast extract, providing amongst other substances the heat-stable factor [Hassan and Drummond, 1927], does not ameliorate the condition, or retard the decline or the onset of nervous symptoms, at any rate in the case of birds feeding voluntarily.

Observations on the Serum Calcium, Proteins, and Inorganic Phosphorus in Experimental Vitamin B Deficiency and Inanition.*
In recent experimental vitamin B deficiency studies the usual practice now is to provide the test animals with a complete diet containing all essentials in proper proportion, omitting only the factor under investigation. Such a program is especially valuable for physiological experiments. Agreement in the observations on different species of animals can only be expected when the nutritional con...

1. The histological changes of the bone marrow in fasted and rice disease pigeons are essentially the same. 2. The histological changes of the bone marrow in pure vitamin B deficiency consist of degeneration and edema and slight endothelial proliferation of the small vascular channels, but with active hematopoiesis. 3. The anemia of rice disease in pigeons is in large part a starvation anemia a...
متن کاملVitamin D Deficiency and its Relation with Cancer in Children
Vitamin D deficiency is known as the most common nutritional deficiency. It is created during infancy due to different factors, including decreased dietary intake, decreased dermal synthesis, malabsorption, enzyme-inducing medications, and exclusive breastfeeding. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with poor bone health such as rickets and osteomalacia in children. Despite vitamin D plays an im...
